Candidiasis, a benign but very annoying

Candidiasis is an infection caused by a fungus that affects the vagina or penis. In most cases their origin is in the body itself.

Although candidiasis is considered a sexually transmitted disease in more than half of cases the origin is in the human body itself, that causes in response to changes taking place in the body which produce an imbalance.

Contagion

Only a third of cases the disease is spread through sexual contact. Some antibiotics and medications such as cortisone or immunosuppressive can support the development of candidiasis.

Also diabetes, poor hygiene, and pregnancy are factors favoring the development of this disease. You can also get in contact with an infected object.

Symptoms

Although this is a benign disease symptoms are extremely bothersome, causing the affected person is obliged to consult a specialist. Its main symptom is intense itching and annoying on genitals.

The itching may be accompanied by a thick, white and burning on urination. Similarly, there is a reddening of the vulva and is usually covered with a whitish deposit.

In humans this disease is rare and its symptoms are less virulent. These symptoms should be noted stinging skin of the glans and foreskin and the appearance of small bumps on that part.

Treatment

The most common methods to treat this infection are in the form of creams and suppositories that can be obtained at any pharmacy and, in most cases without a prescription.

Some of these medicines for the treatment of candidiasis may weaken the material they are made of condoms and diaphragms, increasing the risk of unwanted pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Also, some of these medications, which have a stronger effect, can cause harm to the developing fetus and therefore needs to be taken and notify the pharmacist if you are pregnant.

Preventive measures

Although no one is immune to a fungal infection it is possible to take certain precautions to avoid creating conditions that are favorable for disease development.

  • We must carefully dry the genital area after showering.
  • Avoid underwear made of synthetic materials and opt for cotton.
  • Avoid tight clothing.
  • Douching is not recommended unless prescribed by a specialist.

Although not a serious illness should consult a specialist if it detects any symptoms that may suggest a possible infection of candidiasis.
