Breast Cancer | Lifestyle factors to reduce the recurrence

Breast Cancer | Lifestyle factors to reduce the recurrenceAs a breast cancer survivor, you can take steps to help reduce the risk of recurrence. These measures are to maintain a healthy weight, exercising regularly and restrict the amount of alcohol you consume. These changes in lifestyle not only decrease the possibility of recurrence of breast cancer, but also reduce the risk of you getting other diseases.

Among the most important steps is to maintain an ideal weight, especially in the years after menopause. The investigations suggest that the fat (or fat) is a source of estrogen. Many breast cancers are sensitive to hormones and may grow more rapidly in the presence of estrogen. Thus, having more fat tissue may increase the chance of developing breast cancer, especially among women who already have a history.

Maintaining a healthy weight or, if necessary, lose fat, and reduces the amount of estrogen decreases in the body, which in turn reduces the risk of estrogen-sensitive cancer. Research estimates that when someone has a healthy weight, the risk for breast cancer can be reduced by about 26 percent. While there are no specific dietary guidelines for breast cancer survivors, a well-balanced diet rich with fruits, grains and vegetables and low in fat and sugars, may help maintain a healthy weight. The fight against breast cancer

The fight against breast cancer, the second most common in the world after lung and first in women, continues to progress but with some setbacks, according to research presented last weekend at the most important congress on the evil that takes place in Chicago.

The most interesting progress was reported in advanced forms of breast cancer, against which the patients are not treated with another option when standard therapy is exhausted.

A derivative of a sea sponge can prolong the life of these patients.

This synthetic component, called Eribulin masylate, mimics what is found naturally in the sponge and prevents cell division.

This international clinical trial, called Embras, first compare the effects of Eribulin with classical treatments to combat a localized breast cancer, but who has suffered recurrent or metastatic carcinoma.
Clinical Trial

The 762 participants in the trial had undergone four chemotherapies.

“These results are promising because until now there was no treatment for the sick type of advanced breast cancer or those in which they had already failed the known therapies,” said Dr. Christopher Twelves, lead author and professor of clinical pharmacology cancer at the University of Leeds in Britain.

Twelves presented this work on Sunday, during the 46th annual conference Estadunidensede Clinical Cancer Society, meeting in Chicago. Read the rest of this entry »

No Breast Cancer for Women Over 75 Years

No Breast Cancer for Women Over 75 Years

Women over 75 years are not eligible for screening for breast cancer. The court in The Hague yesterday determined that the age of 75 years continues.

The case was brought against the state by 3 women, the Test cases Clara Wichmann Fund and Breast Cancer Society. They also want women older than 75 have the right to the rural population to participate.

Now, only women aged 50 to 75 years every 2 years for a call to be tested. Who is older may be examined, but that happens on demand rather than via a call for screening.

Scientists have regular screening so little use in later life, than because tumors grow so slowly that most patients die before something else.

The plaintiffs call it discrimination. They say that every year hundreds of older women really die needlessly from breast cancer.

The Court is the balance between the usefulness of screening and medical risks that are not made, a medical issue. The Minister of Health policy should therefore be based entirely on the advice of scientists, in this case by the Health.

Only when there are strong indications that an opinion is wrong, it should be waived. That is the breast cancer research is not the case, the court said.
