Diabetes type 1 is insulin-dependent diabetes in which the body lacks insulin, known as Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM). This is caused by a loss of insulin producing beta cells in pancreatic Langerhans island. Type 1 diabetes is mostly found in infants, children and adolescents.
