The prevention of breast cancer is in your hands. No matter if you have a history of this cancer in your family. If you follow three simple tips, you can prevent breast cancer from developing in your body. Read on and find out the results of an investigation.

If your mother, your grandmother, your aunt or your sister with breast cancer, your alarms should be on. There is a hereditary component that can make you more likely to develop it. But what if I told you only follow 3 simple habits you can give the battle to genetics?

That’s it! A new study by the University of Rochester in New York, found that there are three things that can help protect you from developing breast cancer even if you have family history of cancer, especially if you already went through menopause:
- Exercising regularly
- Maintaining a healthy weight
- Drink alcohol in moderation, or stop it.

Which of all these costs you follow? The first and second, no doubt go hand in hand and connect with a good diet. If you do not exercise, it is never too late to start. You have to start doing a triathlon, you can start by walking every day for half an hour, doing yoga, biking, or playing sports such as swimming or tennis. The important thing is that you are in motion for at least 40 minutes to an hour a day. This will help you stay within a healthy weight (according to your height and your age).

And if you like to accompany your meal with a glass of wine, you can keep doing it. Just remember not to overdo it: the recommended alcohol limit for a woman, according to the American Cancer Society, is one drink a day.

The researchers wanted to conduct this study to show women who are genetically predisposed to develop breast cancer, not everything is out of control. To achieve its objective, analyzed nearly 2,000 women between the ages of 50 and 79, for a little over 5 years.

But the good news comes in this research were not only for those women with a family history of breast cancer. The study, published in this month of October in the journal Breast Cancer Research also indicates that implementation of these three points is equally beneficial for any woman.

The conclusion is clear: follow these three healthy habits reduces the risk of breast cancer in women with and without family history of cancer. More specifically, among women who had a family history of breast cancer that followed these three habits, only 6 out of 1,000 developed cancer over a period of one year. While 7 of every 1,000 women with these characteristics who did not follow these habits, developed cancer in the same period.

The case of women without a family history of breast cancer who did follow these habits, it is different in that approximately 3.5 of every 1,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer in the course of a year, compared with 4.6 per 1,000 non followed any of these healthy habits and developed breast cancer.
These results demonstrate that healthy habits such as exercise, healthy weight and have a drink in moderation, do have a measurable effect on the incidence of breast cancer.

So if you thought that if having a family history of breast cancer, were also sentenced to suffer, it’s time to change your way of thinking.

Better start practicing these 3 simple habits and reduce the risk of developing this type of cancer that affects both women.

In addition to maintaining a healthy diet and moderate exercise routine, sleep can also help you maintain a healthy heart. Recent discoveries that speak of common sleep problems may be related to the risk of heart problems. Here we tell you more about this finding.

If you love to sleep and stay a while in bed, here is a discovery that gives you a good excuse to revel in the sheets, because the common sleep problems may be related to factors dangerous for the heart.

This does not mean that more sleep is good for the heart. At the contrary, do not sleep much the same as sleep. For example, people who snore loudly do not rest properly.

Other times seems to be nothing strange in the middle of the night while we slept, but when we get up we are tired, as if we had not slept. Have you ever tried? If this happens frequently, you may have a sleep problem.

Of course, who can not sleep or find it hard to sleep because they suffer from insomnia, it is clear that they have problems to rest.

Considering these characteristics, a group of researchers coordinated by Wendy M. Troxel, assistant professor of psychiatry and psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, U.S., looked at nearly a thousand adults aged 45 to 74 years old, for three years. So, found that those with one or more of these sleep problems were more likely to develop what is called metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome, also known as syndrome X, is a group of factors that increase our risk of developing heart disease or diabetes.

While not all doctors agree with the definition or the cause of this syndrome, it is considered that a person has metabolic syndrome when presented at least three of these five factors (related to obesity):
- Hypertension or high blood pressure
- Increased levels of sugar or glucose in the blood
- Elevated triglycerides (a type of fat) in the blood

Low levels of “good” cholesterol in the blood known as HDL (High Density Lipoprotein).

Excess fat in the waist area (so-called “central obesity”). It is also said that the person has the body in “apple shape.”

The more of these risk factors you have, the higher your risk of heart disease, even if your total cholesterol level is normal. Of course, other risk factors for your heart may be:
- Age and aging.
- Genetic predisposition or inheritance (ie, have genes that make them more likely to suffer from this condition).
- Hormonal changes.
- Lack of exercise.

Fortunately, to prevent and control most of these factors, we can do several things. With only change certain habits and customs can help you get better and have a stronger heart. For example, it is a good idea:
- Eating a diet low in fat, with a variety of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and if possible include fatty fish at least twice a week.
- Make at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise on most days (walking, for example, that’s enough).
- Lose weight.
- Controlling blood pressure and blood sugar level.
- Do not smoke.

Now we also know that these activities can add the rest well or sleep well.

Anyway, if you know you belong to risk group, better sleep may not be enough. It is important to visit your doctor to clear all your doubts and you receive the right treatment for you and your heart. So yes, to sleep in peace.

As a breast cancer survivor, you can take steps to help reduce the risk of recurrence. These measures are to maintain a healthy weight, exercising regularly and restrict the amount of alcohol you consume. These changes in lifestyle not only decrease the possibility of recurrence of breast cancer, but also reduce the risk of you getting other diseases.

Among the most important steps is to maintain an ideal weight, especially in the years after menopause. The investigations suggest that the fat (or fat) is a source of estrogen. Many breast cancers are sensitive to hormones and may grow more rapidly in the presence of estrogen. Thus, having more fat tissue may increase the chance of developing breast cancer, especially among women who already have a history.

Maintaining a healthy weight or, if necessary, lose fat, and reduces the amount of estrogen decreases in the body, which in turn reduces the risk of estrogen-sensitive cancer. Research estimates that when someone has a healthy weight, the risk for breast cancer can be reduced by about 26 percent. While there are no specific dietary guidelines for breast cancer survivors, a well-balanced diet rich with fruits, grains and vegetables and low in fat and sugars, may help maintain a healthy weight.

A formula called body mass index (BMI), which compares weight to height, can help to determine if your weight is within healthy range. BMI is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms to height in meters squared. In most people, is considered normal BMI between 18.5 and 24.9.

Closely related to maintaining a healthy weight is to do regular exercise. It has been shown that exercise reduces estrogen and insulin levels and enhances the immune system. The evidence is overwhelming about to start a regular exercise program before menopause offers lasting benefits for breast cancer. If you are not incorporating exercise into your daily routine, start slowly until it for 30 minutes at least three times a week. Remember that there needs to train to run marathons, so that with brisk walking, bicycling or swimming, you will give your body the exercise it needs.

The advantages to maintain a healthy weight and regular exercise go far beyond reducing the risk for breast cancer, they also serve to prevent colon cancer and other gastrointestinal cancers, gynecological cancers other than as cancer endometrium. The fat is a risk factor for all these types of cancer.

Furthermore, it has clearly shown that losing weight and exercising are used to prevent heart disease, the leading killer of women in America. Finally, we know that regular exercise also helps prevent the dreaded bone loss, which can lead to osteoporosis. This is especially important for women going through menopause and is essential for those receiving estrogen therapy (to reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence), since these therapies can accelerate the development of osteoporosis.

Another important change you can do is restrict the amount of alcohol they consume. The investigations suggest that the more alcohol is consumed, the greater the risk of developing breast cancer. The general recommendation is that women limit alcohol consumption to an average of no more than one alcoholic drink daily (8 ounces of wine, 16 ounces of beer, or other-half ounces of hard liquor).

By following these recommendations on lifestyle, you could play a key role in reducing the risk of recurrence of breast cancer. For details on a weight loss program good for you or tactics on how to restrict the intake of alcohol, talk with your doctor.

The three main factors you should take to prevent breast cancer are:

Eat a healthy diet: the American Cancer Association recommends a diet low in fat. Moreover, not only helps you maintain your weight but also to prevent other diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension.

Try to maintain a healthy weight and exercise: obesity is a risk factor for breast cancer, especially when you gain weight after menopause. If you exercise regularly, it’s easier to have a healthy weight. Try to make at least 30 minutes daily.

Limit your intake of alcohol: There is a correlation between alcohol consumption and breast cancer. Whether wine, beer, vodka, no difference. If you drink alcoholic beverages, the key is that you avoid alcohol consumption to one drink per day or eliminate it completely.

Finally, remember to share this information with all the women you want. With that, you can help in the fight against breast cancer and help save lives.

Here we have a study that was presented at a conference, in which Hispanic women may be more likely to die from breast cancer compared with non-Hispanic white women. Discover more about this issue and how you can prevent breast cancer.

Breast cancer is not only more common among women around the world but also, including the most common cause of cancer death. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in the so-called developed and those in developing countries, reported about 690 thousand new cases per year.

In particular, it is estimated that in 2008, 1.38 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer, which is also the fifth leading cause of cancer death worldwide. At one year, about 458 thousand people die of breast cancer.

In the Americas region, it affects women and causes 320 000 deaths of the other 82 000, while in the United States these figures reach the 182 000 and 40 000 women, respectively.

Beyond geography, there seem to be biological conditions that cause breast cancer causes more deaths in one ethnic group than another. What does this mean? That breast cancer does not affect them equally to all women.

A recent study presented at the Breast Cancer Symposium 2011 in San Antonio, Texas, United States, found that Hispanic women are 20 percent greater chance of dying from breast cancer than non-Hispanic white women. According to the researchers suggested this could be due to biological differences in tumors, which would be more resistant to chemotherapy.

To reach these conclusions, the experts noted the risk of breast cancer in Hispanic women and 692 non-Hispanic whites in New Mexico, from 1992 to 1996, while a different study followed 577 women with invasive breast cancer by 2008 to assess differences in survival rates.

Thus, the researchers found that Hispanic women were about 20 percent greater chance of dying from breast cancer than non-Hispanic white women. The possibilities are almost the same level decreased in both groups, when the researchers adjusted the data based on age, disease progression, involvement of lymph nodes and estrogen receptor.

However, as this research was presented at a medical meeting, its data and conclusions should be considered preliminary until publication (when this information is reviewed again by a group of medical colleagues).
Meanwhile, no matter what ethnic group you belong, remember that despite scientific advances in the treatment of breast cancer, the best way to combat it is through early detection and diagnosis.

You yourself can learn to examine yourself at home, to see a specialist as soon as possible if you notice something strange. And of course, be sure to visit your gynecologist (a) for your regular checkups, even if you feel good.

When you are tested in a laboratory, the results will be accurate and reliable. But when you measured it at home, can influence factors to give an incorrect result. For best results you should carefully follow the above steps (or steps in the instructions for your meter). Other factors that can give a result that is not correct:

- The meter is dirty
- The meter or test strip are at room temperature
- The test strip has expired
- The test strips do not correspond to the model of the device
- The device is not calibrated for the strips you’re using
- The blood is very small

If instead of the figure in the display the word error, check the meter’s user manual and look for error codes to see what you did wrong. You can also call the manufacturer toll free for you have any questions about the operation.

Do not rest until you become an expert to measure your blood glucose in your blood. The process is simple and vital to ward off diabetes and protect your health. Remember to keep a record of your results to your doctor see how your treatment progresses to help you to make changes and adjustments if necessary.

The steps for measuring glucose:

1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or an alcohol wipe passes over the injection site. Let the area dry.
2. Click the site (the finger, for example) with the lancing device to obtain a drop of blood.
3. Gently squeeze the finger or give a massage until a drop (or the number you require your meter).
4. Place and hold the edge of the strip to the drop of blood and wait for the result.
5. Your level of glucose (sugar) appears on the small screen of the meter.

Little by little you will go and you do get used quickly and effectively. But problems can arise.

If you can not get the amount of blood needed
- Place your hands under running hot water and rub them together.
- Let your hand hang below the waist.
- Lightly tighten the injection site for 3 seconds.
- Put your finger on a firm surface to avoid moving the hand while you give the prick
- Regulate the depth of the lancet. Increase it if necessary.
- Use a new lancet each time you measure your glucose.
To avoid the sting hurts too much, decreasing the depth of the lancet pricks and gives the sides of the fingers instead of the yolks. Try to sample other areas of the body such as the forearm or thigh.

The reading of the glucose level quickly tells you if your body is using insulin properly, or if you have enough of it. As the level of blood glucose changes often, you must learn to measure it several times a day. The best way is using a device called a glucometer. Here we give you information and tips for proper use.

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, should monitor and control your blood glucose daily. Surely you know that glucose is the fuel needed by cells and that give input only if it comes accompanied by insulin. The amount of glucose in the blood is expressed in milligrams per deciliter. Look at the numbers that the American Diabetes Association (American Diabetes Association) recommends you have a goal:

- 70-130 mg / dl before meals (fasting)
- Less than 180 mg / dl, 1 to 2 hours after a meal

To know what your glucose level at any given time, you need a meter (a special device for that purpose). Your doctor or pharmacist can help you choose the best meter for you to use it correctly and keep a record of results.

Whatever the meter model you choose, have a lancing device, a lancet, test strips and monitor or little screen where you see the results of the test. The following factors help you decide which suits you best:

- Speed to get the results
- Amount of blood required
- Monitor size and numbers are easily read
- Possibility to take the blood sample from other parts of the body besides the fingers (forearm, for example)
- If you provide additional information (date and time of the result)
- Cost of test strips
- Easy to use the device or carry with you wherever you go (its size, weight)

Many people with diabetes need certain doses of insulin every day. Before you could only do so by injection, but with the advancement of science has developed new, less painful and with different advantages to suit the particular life style of each. If you want more information about this topic, read this article.

Diabetes is a chronic condition that is characterized by the body or produce, or not enough or properly use insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, and has the mission to bring glucose into cells throughout the body. Glucose (sugar) is the main source of energy and the only cells that use the brain and central nervous system.

When you lack insulin or can not be produced to fulfill its function well, the level of glucose in the blood, which can cause many problems, both short and long term. So many people with diabetes need to take insulin daily to the body to receive the energy they need to perform all its functions properly.

Until relatively recently, the only way was to apply the traditional and uncomfortable injections. Today, thanks to scientific advances, there are several methods for applying this medication. The main ones are:

The insulin pump: an excellent alternative to injections since it provides insulin to the body for 24 hours a day through a catheter (a tube) that is placed under the skin. It is the size of a box of a cell phone and works with batteries. By using the insulin pump, insulin can adapt to your lifestyle and not the reverse. Discover more about this alternative vidaysalud.com this other article.

Insulin pens. They are so called because its shape is similar to a pen instead of ink but have a cartridge that can inject insulin in a more simple and less painful than traditional syringes. Some have used refillable cartridges and other disposable cartridges. Both allow you to select the amount you want to inject insulin. Although it requires a Small Nips.

Port injection or insulin pump. This is a tiny tube placed into the tissue beneath the skin, with a patch on the surface that holds it firmly in place. Then, insulin is placed through this place, either with a traditional syringe or insulin pen, without puncturing the skin again. This port can remain in place for several days but should be replaced frequently. The advantage is that it reduces the number of punctures that the person receives.

Wizards of injections. In this case, these mechanisms that facilitate the placement of injections with needles and syringes, using guidelines stabilizing or a device that holds the syringe and actuated by a spring. Many of these devices have a button that, when pressed, do all the work for themselves and the person can be injected without effort or complications.

Jet injector. Unlike traditional syringes, rather than a needle, these devices disperse the insulin into the skin using a very strong air pressure.

All these methods have their advantages and disadvantages. The good thing is that you can choose the one that’s most comfortable and which best suits your lifestyle. Obviously, we have still a way we can provide insulin in tablet or inhaled (as was attempted temporarily). But research continues and meanwhile, we have these alternatives. You, which do you prefer?

However, inappropriate or wrong move can leave anyone sore and may even lead to injuries that require time to heal. Do you know which are the most common mistakes when exercising, especially if you are a beginner? Here we have some of them to correct them.

Fortunately you have started a new exercise routine looking to improve your fitness and your quality of life in general. Surely you’re excited and expect to see the good and promised immediate results. But wait! Not so fast. Remember that the best gains will come in time: the important thing is to keep your chosen exercise routine and make it a fun and enjoyable.

To do this, once you’ve chosen the activity you want and the most convenient hours, so they would not go to leave, it is important to not make certain common mistakes that occur during exercise. And if you think that this is not your case, I propose a challenge: to discover how many and what are the mistakes that you make, so you can correct them, to avoid injury and get better results. Cheer up! Are you ready? The following are the most common:

1. Do you suffer from anxiety? Do not expect quick results. As with dieting, nothing is a miracle. The important thing is to keep a routine and exercising 3 to 5 hours per week to keep fit (and accompany it with a healthy diet, of course).

2. Be patient! Do not try to do everything at once, or “lost time”. This will only increase the chances of injury. Ideally, adding exercise to go slowly as you gain strength and flexibility.

3. Prevention is better … Do not forget the warm, or relaxation exercises. The transition from one state to another suddenly is not good for your body and increases the chances of injuring yourself. The recommendation is to start slowly and increase intensity of exercises gradually, and at the end taking the time to lower the heart rate and stretch the muscles in order to achieve greater flexibility.

4. Do not forget the water! Drink water before, during and after exercise will allow you to keep your muscles hydrated and prevent muscle spasms and pain. Do not wait to be thirsty, because then your body is already dehydrated.

5. Beware of machines and appliances. The exercise machines are built to fit all body types. Before use, make sure you are set for you. Your coach or someone who knows them in the gym could help with that.

6. Avoid bad posture. Be careful not to make a misguided effort when using the equipment, keep your back straight and always try not to hold you ladearte not too strong. For example, avoid flexionarte forward in climbing, it is preferable that you download the intensity of exercise to maintain good posture with your back while your hands rest lightly on the side rails.

7. Control the weight you lift. Do not try to lift more weight than your muscles can handle, you control your weight and not let it control you. Avoid abrupt pull to lift weights, use the bar always ahead of the head (not behind) and do not rush out the reps, will only make your blood pressure to rise and increase the chances that you damage the joints. Also, remember always exhale on the hardest work, for example, when you lift and hold up.

8. Do not overdo it in intensity. You must learn to balance the intensity of your workouts. These must be severe enough to make you sweat slightly and raise your heart rate, but should not be all fast and too much. Better to have a routine for longer than moderate exercise intensely for a few minutes.

9. Watch out for rebounds. Doing stretching exercises for flexibility and forced many people try, for example to touch the floor with your hands without bending the knees, and bounce it arrived looking a little further down. This only increases the chance to get hurt. Remember that the movements should be slow and you always feel the muscles stretch but you get hurt.

10. Choose wisely what you eat to exercise. Consuming energy bars and sports drinks during moderate routine will only increase the calories you eat. Avoid eating unless your exercise lasts more than two hours.

How many errors did you find? Remember that if you feel any discomfort after exercise, it is important to consult a specialist who can guide you and show you the appropriate treatment to eliminate pain.

In addition to these suggestions, do not forget to have fun and have fun while you exercise. If you find it boring routine starts, then do not waste time and modify it. Also, change your routine every so often you will not always work the same muscles.

Good luck!
