And you, more visits to the dentist that the clinician? Do you care about your general and oral health? Maintaining a healthy mouth is not complicated but requires consistency and dedication, even from children. Follow these simple tips on a regular basis and care for your teeth:
- Brush your teeth every day, at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste: after breakfast and before bedtime, and if you can, also after each meal and sweet snacking.
- Spend at least three minutes each brushing teeth and do not let any out. Furthermore, it is important that the brush on all sides (front, top and back).
- Remember to brush your tongue to keep the breath fresh.
- Do not brush your gums.
- Be sure to use a soft bristle brush and change it every three months.
- Use thread or dental floss at least once a day.
- Ask your dentist if you have to use an antibacterial mouthwash.
- Limit sugary foods you eat, especially between meals.
- If you play contact sports, use appropriate protective equipment to protect your face and your teeth while you play.
- If you are taking medication, ask your dentist if you have side effects that can damage your teeth and, if so, what can you do about it.
- Do not smoke or chew snuff. Not only can stain your teeth and give you bad breath but also, worse, cause you cancer.
- Look into your mouth often to see if you have sores that do not heal, irritated gums or other changes.
- Visit the dentist regularly, at least once a year to make checkups and cleanings.
