What is artificial feeding?
Despite the advantages of breastfeeding, due to cultural, personal or social-work makes an important group of mothers of favoring either initially or during the early months, by artificial feeding.
Artificial feeding is to feed the baby milk formula adapted. These are achieved by modifying cow’s milk to try to look like the most to the mother’s milk. Adapted milks contain the components necessary to meet the needs of the baby.
It is important to choose a bottle of a size appropriate to the age of the baby and a nipple with a hole suitable form and both the child’s age and the food that we give you (it’s different the teat of a baby that only takes 2 months adapted to milk one would take 7 months gluten-free cereal with milk).
During the first 4-6 months is given milk initiation and thereafter, a milk below. The baby’s nutritional needs are different from that age and is more adequately covered with a follow-up formula with a formula of initiation.
Like with breastfeeding from 4-6 months artificial feeding combined with complementary feeding. The most important reason for the introduction of complementary feeding is the increased requirements of energy or calories for the child to grow properly. The child’s growth rate increases from six months and need to take plenty of milk, both milk and formula, to provide the energy needed to grow. Furthermore, it can begin to be insufficient supply of iron, vitamins, etc.. Let the child take other foods not mean you have to remove the milk, which remains an essential food. During the first year of life a child should take at least a pint of milk a day.
Preparation of bottles
* First of all we must be sterilized bottle and teat. There are two basic ways to sterilize the bottle and teat:
1. Warm: boil them in water for 10-15 minutes (the nipple, 5 menit).
2. Cold: submerge the bottle and teat in a container with some water and a chemical that has this purpose, keeping them submerged during a hours. Water is changed every 24 hours.
* Next, calculate the water we put in the bottle and the bucket of milk powder that we put, given that we will always 30 cc (milliliters) of water per bucket of powdered milk (30 cc water, a ladle of milk powder, 60 cc of water, two ladle ,…).
* Looking to the calculation of the milk must take the baby, we should note that the figures cited in the milk cans are adapted for guidance only. These figures are based on the child’s age and may, for example, have healthy children 2 months weighing 5 to 7 kg and to take different amounts of milk. As a general rule, remember that:
1. All children are different and two children the same age need not take the same amount of milk
2. It is advisable not to force feed the children
3. If a child finishes all the bottles you may need an increase in the amount of milk that is given (provided 30 in 30 cc).
* Heat the water (mineral or tap). If there is doubt about the health conditions we will use tap water or bottled water proceed to boil tap water for 5 minutes.
* Pour the amount of water was calculated to bottle (this is graduated and facilitates the measurement of water).
* Will throw the bucket of milk initially estimated. Will pots privates, without trees and without pressing or compressing the powder.
* Shake the contents of the bottle until the milk powder is evenly dissolved.
* Cool the bottle until the milk reaches a safe temperature. It checks the temperature dropping a few drops of milk on the back of the hands of the mother.
* Below, we give the bottle to the baby, taking care that the teat is always full of milk and contains no air.
* Half-making can be a little rest, drawing the baby burp. Usually, belch more babies than bottle feeding a breastfed at the breast.
* After completing the shot, the bottle is washed with soap and water.
Special milks
At times, we must use special milk, again following a visit with a pediatrician.
The most common allergy is constituted so as intolerance to proteins in cow’s milk. In these cases, management uses formulas with partially digested proteins (casein hydrolysates).
It should not be adapted cow’s milk in the first year of life.
